US Lacrosse Chapter Newsletter - April 2012

Boys U13 and U15 Tryouts

Currently we have scheduled these try outs for April 23th and April 25nd, , (realize the timing on this is not ideal but circumstances dictated this), at Princeton HS for both groups from 6:30, (dressed and ready to go), to 8:30. Nominees will be provided a numbered pinney, (which they get to keep), and we will provide some water and Gatorade. Cost will be $30. per player. We will have a template posted/sent soon with all of the information we require. The cost for all players who make the teams will be $250. per player and your program will be invoiced for the total. As part of this each player receives Chapter all star gear—uniforms, bags, hoodies, etc which they get to keep. While we ask that this cost be borne by the team/program, we understand that some may have to involve the respective parent—that is up to them how they want to handle that. We ask that all programs nominate up to 3 players at each age group—(exceptions will be made where warranted). Typically, a lot of programs still use grade based systems—for U13 typically 6th grade and U15, 8th grade though this year, you will note above they are allowing HS kids as long as they are age qualified.

We will be reaching out shortly for volunteers to evaluate. No evaluators are allowed to be involved in their own son's try out sessions, i.e, to be an evaluator for that session. They can be involved in the other age group. Once the try outs conclude we will decide on the respective teams by that week's end and announce the teams and coaches following that.

Important Note: the Raleigh event conflicts with Lehigh Lax fest so please consider that when you nominate. This has been the case for the last several years and I know some players have chosen to play in this event while others have chosen their summer travel team and Lehigh. We just ask that if kids commit to either, they don't change their mind at the last minute.

As is the case every year, we anticipate having 5 to 7 practices leading up to the event. We are usually every year considered an elite team and we get placed in the elite bracket. We obviously seek the best skilled players we can find at their respective age levels.

I have been involved in this now for 12 or 13 years- I have lost track—and I can tell you from experience that this always turns out to be a very memorable experience for players and their parents so please take advantage of this opportunity.

We will continue to provide more details shortly, including the nomination templates.
Please direct any questions either to me or to Mike McGinn, copies above who is our VP and Youth Director for this event as well as Jim DeMarco, Chapter Secretary also copied above.
Please copy us on any forwarded emails to respective programs, etc., so we can keep track.

Thanks guys and again,
Dale Oehler
President

Our Chapter promotes, supports and serves the lacrosse community in the following ways:

  • POSITIVE LACROSSE
  • NEW START PROGRAM FOR BEGINNING TEAMS
  • BOYS & GIRLS UNDER-13 AND UNDER-15 ALL STARS
  • NJ LACROSSE HALL OF FAME
  • NJ SOUTH LACROSSE WEBSITE

Membership is the lifeline to the success of the NJ South Chapter as we are directly funded by the very successful "Chapter Rebate Program". The program is very simple and allows a certain portion of your membership dues to go directly back to our chapter. We have also relied upon the very generous gifts from corporate and individual sponsors.

The New Jersey South Lacrosse Foundation's policy is determined by a board of directors which represent every aspect of the game, and by an Executive Committee which meets bi-monthly to monitor the progress of the Chapter. Youth and High School boys' and girls'divisions under the board address the issues specific to the play of each version of the game; councils within and/or between each division represent each constituency of the game; and committees throughout the organization focus on specific areas of operation.

Our Chapter's goal is to encourage membership, and to promote the highest level of sportsmanship and healthy competition. Safety and respect for every player, coach and referee is expected at all times, both on and off the field.
